Definition of Electric Bike:

The state of South Carolina (SC) defines electric bikes as a cycle with pedals that permit propulsion by human power and a motor of not more than 500W. Electric bikes must be designed to not exceed 30mph.

Licensing and Registration:

The state of South Carolina does not require license or registration.

Helmet Law:

Helmets are required for riders under the age of 18.

Where to Ride:

Electric bicycles are permitted on all road ways and on bicycle recreational paths. Electric bikes are prohibited from riding on sidewalks.
