North Dakota State Electric Bike Laws, Definition & Legal Operation

Definition of Electric Bike:

The state of North Dakota (ND) defines an electric bike as a device with two or three wheels no more than 32" wide, with foot pedals or foot rests, a motor of less than 500W and does not exceed a speed of 30mph on level surface. Riders must be at least 14 years of age.

Licensing and Registration:

The state of North Dakota does not allow registration of electric bikes.

Helmet Law:

Helmets are required for all riders under the age of 18.

Where to Ride:

Electric bicycles are permitted to ride on all public highways and roadways, in bike lanes and on bike paths.
