Definition of Electric Bike:

The state of Mississippi (MS) does not legally define electric bicycles. In Opinion No. 2007-00602, Attorney General Jim Hood clarified that bicycle with a motor attached to it does not satisfy the definition of "motor vehicle."

Licensing and Registration:

The state of Mississppi does not require license or registration for electric bikes.

Helmet Law:

Helmets are not required for electric bicycles.

Where to Ride:

In Opinion 2007-00602, Attorney General James Hood stated that it is up to the entity creating bike lanes and paths to decide if electric bikes are allowed. Please review the restrictions for electric bikes with the local ordinance where you intend to ride.
